I've been frequenting Motor-City Soul Food for about 5 years now.  The only location I've been to is the location in Oak Park, on Greenfield Rd.  I will say in the beginning, well my first experience ordering a dinner was sketchy, just b/c I didn't like the macaroni and cheese, the line was super long, I thought the bullet proof glass that you have to literally yell through was borderline ridiculous, and some of the staff were rude.  Also, I thought the prices for the dinners were kind of pricey (however they do offer very generous portions).

However, now that I've ordered food from this restaurant a few more times, I have had more enjoyable experiences.  I think this restaurant is very hit or miss overall though.  Sometimes, the food is on point, and I'm thinking to myself I didn't mind the long haul to order food, but then other times, I've received food that I thought tasted old, was dry, and just so-so.  But I do like the in and out effect of just going and placing an order, and getting right out (except for Sundays, but that's to be expected).  Some of my favorites are the Smothered Fried Pork Chops, Roast Beef, and Fried Chicken.  I also love the yams, and I've ordered dessert there before, banana pudding and pound cake, and I liked it.  So I would have to say my experience are tilted more on the pros, than cons.

If you are looking for food to order fast, huge portions, and a variety of soul food choices, I say try this place out.  I think for the most part the food is good overall on a good day, and overall bad, on a bad day.  So there definitely could be more consistency!

The servers have nasty attitudes. For the money that a person spend in there they could at least. Try to be friendly. The attitudes along will make a person go somewhere else. Guess I'll spend my money at Boston Chicken next time

I do not understand businesses that put up thick bulletproof glass in restaurants and expect you to come in there and want to stand in line behind five people when there are 10 people behind the glass standing looking at those 5 people but not taking orders.

The prices the prices the prices are depressing.

When you look up and see a two piece chicken dinner priced at $8 with two sides you will hit the door and go right down the street to KFC and get a three-piece meal with two sides for $7 including a drink. I personally have never been able to come in this place and get out of here in less than 10 minutes when there was only one order. Why does it take so long to get food from a hot buffet line standing right in front of you into a foam container that you are holding?

Also can you please ask someone to wash the inside of that bullet proof glass because those splashes of food totally make it impossible to see what is in that hot buffet line where you are holding all the food that you are "talking over" while serving it to us. Please stop talking over the food while you are serving it that means you are contaminating it possibly with your saliva.

I don't understand this place I really don't, so I'm going to be honest and leave a review so that others who go in here can help me figure out what it is that I don't get about this place because I totally don't get it.

They are overpriced, they are slow, and they put bullet proof glass between me and my food. That doesn't work especially when I can go next door to the deli or even to Starbucks and there is no bullet proof glass.

Why do you need bullet-proof glass in this place?

If I could give it a zero stars, I would. Rude employees/horrible customer service....Ox tails had no meat which is why I was able to spot worm like strings wrapped around the bone. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Customer service was terrible! All the employees look unhappy, dry & disappointed with life. The food was good. Had the baked chicken, Mac & cheese & greens, yams & smothered chicken. Would not return because $39 to 2 dinners, I expect to have better service. McDonalds gives better service.
